Prof. Willem Brons

Prof. Willem Brons, born in Arnhem (The Netherlands), studied at the Muzieklyceum in Amsterdam under Karel Hilsum (piano) and Piet Kee (organ). Following this he continued his studies at the Conservatoire in Geneva, under Louis Hiltbrand, a former assistant and friend of Dinu Lipatti. In 1968 he won two main prizes at the Geneva Competition: the ,,Premier Prix avec Distinction“ and the „Prix Philipinetti à la Mémoire de Panderewsky“ and played with important Dutch orchestras such as the Concertgebouworkest (under Bernard Haitink), the Residenzorchester Den Haag and the Rotterdam Philharmonisch Orkest (under Hans Vonk and Edo de Waart). In addition, he was invited to play concerts with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and ,,L‘ orchestre de la Suisse Romande” (Geneva). Since 1982, Willem Brons has been a regular guest in Japan, where he appears almost every year with solo programmes, chamber music and in orchestral concerts; he also gives master classes at the National University of the Fine Arts in Tokyo, at the Summer Academy in Kusatsu, at the Gnessin Academy in Moscow, the “Courchevel” master class in Japan and every year in August a master class in Amsterdam. Willem Brons is a member of the ,,Robert-Schumann Ensemble“ chamber music group. He teaches at the Sweelinck Conservatoire in Amsterdam. He has given solo recitals in London, Paris, Rome, Tokyo, Moscow, Brussels, Berlin and in many other important music centres in Europe.
